Jae Cabrera does #1songadayfor2017

I love watching people work on their hustle – grinding and putting in the effort. This is why I am happy to feature singer, Jae Cabrera.

I have watched him over the past few months perform songs – original and cover songs, on his Instagram account, where he proudly displays his hashtag #1songadayfor2017. It is in these posts where he dazzles his fans with his smooth voice.

In addition to showing his skills via social media, he released a single earlier this year – Show Out, which was nominated for a Toronto Independent Music award in the Best Urban category.   He is also currently promoting his newest track “Dolla$” feat. SinnthaSaint

I gotta support anyone who fully commits and invests time in their hustle. I contacted Jae and asked if I could profile him on my blog.

To find out more about Jae’s love of performing, keep reading!

Birthplace: Elmhurst, Queens, New York

Astrological Sign: Cancer

Musical Influences: Michael Jackson, Prince, Babyface, Usher, Bruno Mars

Fun Fact: Jae was a member of a boy band back in the day!

How did you get your start in music?

I always had a love of music from a young age.  I was in the school choir in elementary school, and was involved in various music groups throughout high school.

I actually started writing in the 7th and 8th grade. It wasn’t until I got to high school that I was formulating more of the structure and melody of the song.

It was in 2000 that it got more serious – I treated it more than a hobby.

Describe your music.

A mix of The Weeknd, maybe a bit of a Usher, Ne-yo, Justin Timberlake kinda vibe. A blend of all their styles, but definitely, a pop/R&B feel to my sound.

When did you know you wanted to make music your passion?

For me, music has always been a constant.  I’m a music lover, so my tastes range from pop to EDM to country to classical, etc.  It wasn’t until I met my long-time collaborator and mentor, producer Angelo “DOC” Velasquez, that I really started to get more serious about it.

Why did you start using the hashtag #1songadayfor2017?

It was New Year’s Day and I was trying to think of a way to share my love of music and singing, and how I could bring a little more attention to my stuff. I decided that I’m going to put it out there and people are either going to like it, or not, and that’s okay. Not everyone is going to like what you do.

For me I was nervous in the beginning – you never know how everyone will react to your music. But at the end of the day, you have to have confidence and believe in yourself.

I looked up the hashtag #1songadayfor2017 and there was no one using it, so I started using it.

I thought it would be cool way to do a 60 second cover. Nowadays everyone’s attention span is so short and everything is so quick, ….. I just hoped that in those 60 seconds the song would stick in their heads!

Through #1songadayfor2017 I thought that someone watching the posts may think, “I could do this too” and maybe it helps them get out of their shell – and that’s cool!

What has been your top #1songadayfor2017 post so far?

The top post so far was #225 where I performed “Where is The Love” from The Black Eyed Peas. I performed that song after the Charlottesville tragedy.

Anti- bullying Advocate

Jae is not only committed to music, he is a part of an anti-bullying tour alongside Raoul Juneja, Alexi Couto among others, which instills confidence, and empowers youth. As a youth Jae was on the receiving end of bullying, so he uses this outlet to share and express how he has overcome it.

How did you get involved with the anti-bullying initiative?

Joanna Patafio from Knockout Management Entertainment actually started the initiative in late 2015.  She also knows “DOC”, so we had that connection in common. In early 2016, Joanna had contacted me about my interest in being a part of the initiative, and I jumped at the opportunity. I had experienced some bullying in elementary school and early on in high school, so I was able to share those stories and talk about how music helped me through.

The second edition of the anti-bullying tour, ” Stand Against The Fear”,  starts November 20, 2017.

Singer, anti-bully advocate- is there anything Jae can’t do? I love his commitment to what he is passionate about. Be it music or the anti-bullying initiative – I love that he hustles 24/7.

Thanks so much for sharing your passion with me, Jae.
